Graduate Trainee – Legal (1 Position)

Summary

Favour Advocates is inviting applications for its Graduate Trainee Programme designed to mentor and develop the next generation of legal professionals. The Graduate Trainee will work under close supervision of experienced attorneys and will gain hands-on exposure to client management, legal research, case preparation, and legal awareness initiatives. This is a structured opportunity for fresh law graduates to build a foundation for a successful legal career.

Trainee / Apprenticeship On-site — Kampala Deadline: 26 Sept 2025

Key Responsibilities

  • Support client intake processes, including registering clients and conducting preliminary interviews.
  • Conduct legal research and assist in drafting routine documents, opinions, pleadings, and correspondence.
  • Maintain and update case files, track deadlines, and assist with case management systems.
  • Provide support at courts, police stations, and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in preparing case materials for hearings, compiling evidence, and drafting witness statements.
  • Participate in alternative dispute resolution sessions under supervision.
  • Contribute to departmental meetings, workshops, and legal awareness activities.
  • Assist in administrative work, including filing, scheduling, drafting minutes, and supporting departmental events.
  • Prepare regular progress and activity reports for supervising Counsel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university — graduating class of 2023/2024 and 2024/2025.
  • Completion of the Bar Course at the Law Development Centre (LDC) or equivalent professional qualification; enrolment as an Advocate is an added advantage.
  • Prior experience through an internship, clerkship, or training with a law firm is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with case management systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Uganda’s legal framework.
